Take A Breath
A podcast for creating practical calm in the messy middle of midlife.
This is your space to pause.
Because life in midlife is full-on. Between work, family, menopause, and the mental load, your nervous system can easily end up in constant overdrive — leaving you feeling exhausted, reactive, and overwhelmed by even the smallest things.
Each week, I’ll share my own tools, alongside honest conversations and practical nervous system support — to help you create more calm, peace, joy, and inner steadiness. Not by escaping your life, because that’s totally unrealistic, but by meeting it differently.
So when you're ready, let’s take a breath together…
Take A Breath
#34 Perimenopause and Your Pelvic Floor with Suzanne Vernazza
Do you find that sometimes you can't help but let a little bit of wee out when you sneeze, cough or laugh? Or are activities like trampolining and skipping a no no because you're scared you might wee yourself?
And do you find that you need to wee much more often than you used to - you know that annoying middle of the night wee?
So many of us accept that this is normal and laugh it off but this isn't normal. Plus during perimenopause, because of lowering oestrogen levels, these issues can get worse, particularly if we ignore them.
And by the way it doesn’t just affect women who’ve had babies, it affects everyone.
So I was delighted this week to talk to Specialist Women's and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Suzanne Vernazza who is passionate about improving care in this important but often neglected area.
Suzanne has her own pelvic health physiotherapy practice in the UK but she has also grown a tic toc following of over half a million people. Not only does she highlight the importance of pelvic health but she also does loads of brilliant Squeezealongs teaching you how to do really good pelvic floor exercises, so you can literally squeeze along to the video.
I think it's super important that we talk about our pelvic health because the good news is, there are some simple things we can all do to help ourselves and prevent things getting any worse.
In the conversation, Suzanne and I discuss:
🎙️ What stress incontinence is and what causes it
🎙️ How perimenopause affects our bladder and pelvic organs
🎙️ The benefits of pelvic floor exercises
🎙️ How to do a really good pelvic floor exercise
🎙️ Why we need to wee more frequently as we age and what we can do about it
🎙️ What a prolapse is, why it happens and what you can do about it
Suzanne referenced the https://thepogp.co.uk/default.aspx for more information on prolapse.
