Did you know that around 1 in 8 women will develop a thyroid disorder in their lifetime? Among these, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid, is the most common.
Interestingly, Hashimoto's and perimenopause share some similar symptoms, and perimenopause can even trigger thyroid issues.
This week, I chat with Dr. Krista Coombs, a specialist in helping others dealing with autoimmunity, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis. She's been practicing Chinese medicine for over 20 years and functional medicine for the last ten.
Dr. Coombs herself was diagnosed with Hashimoto's when she hit perimenopause. She dealt with fatigue, weight gain, brain fog and depression.
